If the government is indulging your vices (booze, gambling, etc.), it's somehow less sinful (or more "socially responsible") than having regular citizens do it.That's as far as I've ever been able to follow the argument, anyway.
As far as government is concerned, it's ok because they force everyone to support the sinful behaviour of those who wish to indulge through taxes.I guess it makes as much sense as rationale for government being involved in most things.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an ombud report into the LCBO.Which is a vile, vile entity.
I think government should have MORE control over our vices. Governments are the one's who pick up the tab on the costs that derive from these vices IE: health care. If these "sinbins" are privatized the focus and effort of these functions will be purely to make profit. That would increase the problems and costs derived from these places to governments.
And the government's role isn't purely to make profit? Social responsibility is the much touted excuse for not allowing the private sector into certain industries, but the government is every bit as motivated by profit as a private corporation would be. The only difference is that there's no competition, meaning that ordinary citizens lose.
If you want to have the government control what you can do, there are plenty of facist regimes you are more than welcome to go live under - but don't try to make everyone else a slave along with you.
Wow a fascist calling me a fascist thats a load.
