quote of the day:

From The Natural Society:
That reminds me... Michael Moore just did a documentary called "Sicko" in Cuba about how wonderful their health care system. Apparently good health care is the major determinant of a good society. Freedom and social mobility are so overrated. Makes one wonder why thousands of people brave shark-ridden waters every year to get the hell off that island and live as illegal immigrants without health care in the US. Perhaps they should watch Moore's movie to better understand how great they had it.

hmm I wonder how much of the GDP do Americans spend for their health care that only covers 60% of the population.
Cuba?
Canada?
I know the statistics and this time are not going to blurt them out.
You search for the answer!
Cubans fleeing Cuba is a mute point on this issue, for its probably not the reason why they leave the country.
Could be because of the dictatorship I dunno??
During the last presidential race after bush got re-elected 100,000 Americans applied to come to Canada the next day!
Now thats an exodus!

Already attacking poor Moore and you haven't seen the flick, or know what factual evidence he has. LoL

I wish I could take credit, but it's from The Natural Society. If you don't read that blog, you should.

I'm flattered that you would recommend me! I quite like your blog too.

Zolton,

% of GDP spent on health care is higher in the US, but you miss one key point. Americans are free to choose how much and what kind of health care they want. On top of that, they're free to do a hell of a lot of things Cubans aren't. Would you trade the liberal freedoms you enjoy for a marginally longer life expectancy?

I don't understand how social democrats end up so enchanted by dictatorships, so long as they have decent social programs. Chavez attacks freedom of speech, destroys people's livlihoods, strangles political opposition... But wait! He hands out checks to the poor, albeit as long as they vote for him in the next election.

In Cuba, speaking ill of the government lands you in jail. Access to consumer goods hovers around N. Korea levels. But they have good doctors! So where Sub-Saharan Africans only get to live in Third World squalor for 40 some odd years, Cubans can do it for a full 80!

Health care is but one of the many desires and wants that people have. It should never be used as a litmus test for social progress.

OK now lets put that in the pot and stir it a little.

George Bush attacks freedom of speech, destroys people's livelihoods, strangles political opposition starts foreign unjust wars, kill civilians, No bid contracts, Abu Ghraib, Dan Brown etc... But wait! He hands out checks to the rich, albeit as long as they funnel money to the republican machine and get votes for him next election by using media fascism.

In the United states, speaking ill of the government, allows the government to retaliate against you. Sure they have great access to consumer goods, (like thats happiness anyway) but no knowledge of what is in, where or how the product was created.
But they have good democracy!
Whoops, I mean oligarchy

So where Sub-Saharan Africans only get to live in Third World squalor for 40 some odd years, Americas can oppress their own fellow human beings from their couches and be none the wiser of why there are third world countries.
Not to forget to mention that parts of the Good ole USA look like third world countries.
OH wait that reality doesn't exist if you can't see it from your gated communities.

Look and feel for this!
Your missing that puzzle piece, that much is evident.
Damn those Cubans for not have so bloody hands!

"Health care is but one of the many desires and wants that people have. It should never be used as a litmus test for social progress".

Heath care is A great test!
What comes first profit or people?
I hope the latter.

Heres a link I was going to add all this up top during that rant, but decided that that would have made us all nauseous.
